Green Bean Soup (Bubur Kacang Hijau) ~ Traditional Indonesia dessert

In Asian country, especially the Chinese, we are always advised by our parents to drink green bean soup so as not to get too heaty and fall sick...

Green Beans are excellent for detox purposes (if well cooked). Such detox include the cleansing of all those electric charges / radiation that are clinging to us due to long hours exposure to all those computer/TV/handphone/electronic gadgets. All these electrical charges if accumulate enough can cause fatigue/headache/nauseas/body ache/etc in some of us. If you have ulcers, itchy skin (allergy) and food poisoning, you may try eating this (but not to be taken together with your medication, if there is any. If you are taking medicine, can eat this 30 minutes after your medicine).

Once in awhile, I will make this for my "boss" as usual...

Here is the simple recipe:

Ingredients

For the green bean soup:

  • 250g green beans
  • 175g  caster sugar/rock sugar/gula melaka (usually I used lesser because my boss prefer less sweet ~ 125g)
  • 4 litre of water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
For the coconut milk sauce: (Optional)
  • 200 ml coconut milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 pcs of pandan leaves

Direction:

  1. Soak the green beans in water for at least 1 hr (6hrs if you have the time).
  2. Boil water with 1/2tsp of salt.
  3. Add green beans in the boiling water and cook till soften (45min-1hr).
  4. And then add sugar and cook until the sugar is dissolved.Set aside and ready to be served.
Optional:
  1. Prepare the coconut milk sauce. Cook the coconut milk with salt and pandan leaves till boil.
  2. You can pour the coconut milk sauce over the top of the green bean soup when served.
Note: My suggestion is to drink it cold!!!!! Amazing....especially on the hot hot days....
